It begins in 1885, when Stephen's great grandfather founded Meyer Jewelry Corporation in Kansas City and planted the seed of a family legacy that would grow across five generations and more than 140 years. Through the turn of the century, two World Wars, the Great Depression, and every shift the jewelry industry has seen since, the Meyer family commitment to craftsmanship, honesty, and personal service never wavered.

Stephen grew up immersed in that legacy, learning the business from the inside out, developing an eye for quality that only comes from decades of mentorship and hands-on experience. When he opened his own private studio in the spring of 1979 out of his apartment, he carried that 94-year family tradition forward in a new form, one that reflected his own vision of what a jewelry experience could and should be. By the time he launched Stephen's Fine Jewelry in the spring of 1976, he already carried more than 90 years of accumulated family expertise into every decision he made.
